The Thrilling- WHO for Week Two

There was no time to lose and so much to cover, speaking of cover...The skin is our largest organ because it spans over and covers our entire human body.
The Foxes took a close look at the skin and the different layers that make up the skin, we took an even closer look and discovered what our body is made up of- Cells. They were absolutely fascinated looking at tiny skin cells through the microscope and could now understand why we have roughly thirty-seven trillion cells in our human body.
Later in the week they made their own skin model's, which they are very proud of, and could not wait to take them home and show them off.
What happens when there is a break in our skin? Well, we bleed.
The Grade 3s discovered the significance of blood and the three different cells found in our blood plasma, learning the main function of each cell. This was an enjoyably yet messy experience.

During PE the Foxes experienced the importance of oxygen in our red blood cells as they tested the durability of oxygenation in their blood during a monkey bar hanging competition.

Meanwhile, in English, the students were very eager to find out that they were going to create their very own newspaper, as we moved into Non-fiction texts this week. Looking at news reports and articles, they got a good feel for what should be included in a newspaper. They began brainstorming their newspaper name and drawing up the layout for their newspaper. Then they created a couple of side-column adverts and copied in their main article for the front page.
In Mathematics, we went into the metric system of measurement covering the units used when measuring distance. We also touched on and challenged ourselves in Multiplication and Time.
Thrilling it was, as the school was converted into a scary Halloween school. The Foxes looked ever so spooky and smart in their Halloween costumes.

It was time for Trick-or-Treat around the school, the Grade 3s received many treats, but were a little confused as Mr. I tricked them by asking for their treats.
A very well done to our three Foxes for winning the awards in their class.

I would like to wish all my Grade Three's a relaxing, fun, and safe break!
