WHO we are- The Human Body

The Fiery Foxes have a new addition to the class and 'No' he is not here to join us because we have Halloween around the corner. For the next few weeks, we are going to be looking at and dissecting the human body (not literally), learning about the different systems and functions in our body, organs and how we should be taking care of them.

As an ongoing task, the students are creating their very own life-size diagrammatic representations of their human body system.

They have already recruited the help of Mr Benny Bones, who waits ever so patiently for the students to finish their task and work.

We looked at the Wonder wall and built on additional bricks, the students have a number of many fascinating questions about their body and some even went into the medical side wondering how/why our bodies react to certain medicines.

During English the students were paired up to write  a fictional story about their biggest secret. It was very interesting to watch them collaborate, compromise and be inclusive of one another's thoughts and excitement. Upon completion, they had to swap their stories, review and correct any errors they picked up in their partner's work, mark it down and sign it off.
In Mathematics, we took a look at fractions and how fractions lead to decimal values...then used this new understanding to answer a series of sums.
PE arrived and boy oh boy were they in for a treat. Strength, balance and body weight, the students participated in Yoga, arm wrestling and a ball wrestle match. They learnt which of their arms had more strength (dominant arm) and some discovered that their writing arm was not actually their strongest arm. The girls were not giving up without a fight and put all their might in to beating the boys in their class when it came to arm wrestling, very successful they undoubtedly were.

Next week Friday the students will be dressing up in their BEST Halloween costume!

Let's see what scare they bring to school!
