Summing up for week six
This week the Fiery Foxes stepped into the shoes of
an architect and designed a structure from Ancient Egypt. They were to create this
structure using their mudbricks, which means they had to consider the size,
shape and quantity of the mudbricks.
They drew up the following designs: a pyramid, tomb, shade-like structure, wall
of hieroglyphics and house.
After a few rounds of voting the pyramid
design received the most votes and so the Foxes got to working on assembling
this structure. I was very proud of their initiative to smooth out their
mudbricks first, the Foxes tried their upmost best to create something that was
structure worthy.
With their brilliance, they took a step back and looked at
their pyramid structure, realized it was resembling a mastaba, and so
settled on having their final result to be an Ancient Egypt Mastaba.
Later on in the week, they worked on their social skills as a class by
recreating other different structures with their mudbricks.
They also attempted carving out hieroglyphics into their mudbricks.
During English we had fun with the different features of nonfiction text,
subcategorizing it into- print features, graphic features and organizational features.
The Fiery Foxes used their Research Skills to look through a range of varying
nonfiction books to find the different features which were being discussed.
Masterminds, they were to puzzle back together the `nonfiction features table`,
which had been cut and jumbled up for them. This was an interesting one as it
unknowingly tested their Organizational Skills as well.
We are very proud of our lil fox's action he was inspired to take this week.
He decided to write his own book at home then came in on Friday and read it to
the class. Great job!
With our unit drawing to an end the Fiery Foxes are waiting with bated breath
for you to see the final compilation of their research projects, be sure
to tune in next week to check them out!
