STEM WEEK!
The Fiery Foxes were proposed with the idea of building DSKI on the moon.
They were told that their focus will be on resources.
Straight away they started brainstorming. The common factors that arose within the groups were natural resources and spacesuits.
This tied our STEM Week together beautifully.
Did you know?
A spacesuit acts as a miniature spaceship that is customized to fit your body. The Fiery Foxes discovered that the spacesuit is equipped with the necessary resources to allow you to survive in space.
This includes that of,
- Oxygen - Water - Food - Temperature regulators
Whilst on the journey of researching and understanding spacesuits, the Foxes also discovered that not just anyone can go to space, there are specific requirements that you have to meet in order to qualify as an astronaut.
So, they created an `Astronaut Qualification and Fitness Check` to make sure that ALL the students at DSKI were ready to become DSKI Astronauts and land the school safely on the moon by Friday.
Early Years
Certificates created by G3 for the newly qualified DSKI Astronauts.
Lower Primary
Certificates created by G3 for the newly qualified DSKI Astronauts.
Upper Primary
Certificates created by G3 for the newly qualified DSKI Astronauts.
Happy with the results, it was now time to build the DSKI Spacesuits.
Not one, but TWO spacesuits are used during a mission.
The first spacesuit is the OCSS (Orion Crew Survival System), also known as:
~ The Flight Suit
or
~ The Launch and Entry Suit
It is used during the launch and entry part of the mission.
It is bright orange in colour for safety reasons, in case the astronauts are to be spotted and rescued during an emergency (out at sea).
Next, is the fully equipped spacesuit used during spacewalks. The Fiery Foxes learnt a lot during the making of this suit.
An astronaut will put on a `maximum absorbency garment`, which is another fancy name for an adult diaper. They then wear a cooling suit, this is fitted with over 300 tubes of water running through the suit, to support temperature regulation. Once the cooling suit is on, the Hard Upper Torso and rest of the suit follows, including that of the gloves, helmet, PLSS- Portable Life Support System (big `box` on their back) and insulated boots.
The Foxes were absolute stars working hard to create their astronaut suits.
Finally, the day arrived and it was time to show off during the....STEM EXHIBITION!
TO PEE OR NOT TO PEE...
A very BIG thank you to our guest speaker who came to talk to us about space and Astronaut Diapers.
We also got to celebrate one of our G3's birthday!
HAPPY 9th BIRTHDAY!🎂
Thank you to all our parents for coming through and supporting our very first,
STEM WEEK EXHIBITION!
🌑
Have a wonderful weekend!
